Faculty Recruitment

Calls for FTEs

The Dean's Office releases calls for Full Time Equivalents (FTEs) which are positions such as Assistant professor series, Assistant professor of teaching, Assistant professor of extension (so on and so forth). The department then puts forward proposals that fit department and program needs that align with the college's vision. The Dean then selects which if any proposals are put forward for a position.

Recruitment Committee

The recruitment advisory committee (RAC) is approved by the Dean. RACs are tasked with putting together the search plan, reviewing applications, organizing candidate job talks, and making a recommendation to the department faculty. The search plan includes position description, classes to be taught, faculty split, among other important details and must be approved by the Dean. The RAC chair is responsible for developing the search plan and conducting an inclusive, equal opportunity recruitment. The recruitment shall be conducted according to the University policy on academic recruitment (APM-500 and UCD-500). To participate in a RAC, faculty must complete STEAD training. UC Davis provides this additional resources and information on faculty recruitment committees.

Department Expectations for Participating in Candidate Talks

The department has a robust culture of participating in search committees. Particularly with job candidate's campus visits, including meeting with candidates individually, attending talks, and meals.

Search Committee Recommendation

The search committee makes a recommendation to the faculty. The faculty discusses and votes for the candidate they would like to extend an offer to.
