Project Description
An invited competition in 2003, this proposed large urban park connects several areas of the city including its government center, diverse neighborhoods, a central train station and the new Fashion City. Included in the proposal are a major botanical garden and central green that can accommodate gatherings of 50,000 people.
Project Background
Mark Francis was asked by the internationally recognized Italian architect Giancarlo DiCarlo to serve as landscape architect for his team's proposal for this large park competition. Other invited teams included Martha Schwartz, Adriaan Geuze, Peter Walker, Kathryn Gustafson, etc, Mark coordinated the open space and landscape design parts of the Team's submission including visiting the site and working with the team in Milan.
